અક્ષય વિકાસ (Sustainable Development), વિકાસ માટેની એક એવી બાબત છે, કે જેમાં વિકાસની નીતિઓ બનાવતી વખતે 'માનવીની વર્તમાન જરૂરીયાત જ પૂર્ણ કરવી એમ નહિ પરંતુ કાયમ માટે માનવીની જરૂરીયાતો પૂર્ણ થાય,' એનું ખાસ ધ્યાન રાખવામાં આવે. આ ઉપરાંત કુદરતી પર્યાવરણની સુરક્ષા તેમ જ સંતુલનનો પુરેપુરો ખ્યાલ રાખવામાં આવે છે.
