એરિસ્ટોટલના ગુરુ તથા પશ્ચિમ જગતમાં ઉચ્ચ અભ્યાસ માટેની પ્રથમ સંસ્થા પ્લેટોનિક એકેડમિના સ્થાપક, પ્લેટો (Greek: Πλάτων, Plátōn, "broad")[૧] (428/427 BC 348/347 BC), તત્ત્વજ્ઞાની, અને ગણિતશાસ્ત્રી પણ હતા. તેઓ મહાન સોક્રેટિસના શીષ્ય હતા.
