મેઈતેઈ લોકો

મેઈતેઈ લોકો અથવા મીતેઈ લોકો ભારત દેશના પૂર્વોત્તર ભાગમાં આવેલા મણિપુર રાજ્યમાં વસવાટ કરતો બહુસંખ્યક સમુદાય છે. તેઓ મણિપુર ક્ષેત્રના મૂળ-નિવાસી છે, જેથી તેઓ 'મણિપુરી' તરીકે પણ ઓળખાય છે. ધાર્મિક દૃષ્ટિએ મોટા ભાગે મેઈતેઈ લોકો હિન્દુ છે^[૧]. એમની પરંપરાગત માન્યતાઓ પૈકી 'સનમાહી' નામક વિશ્વાસ પરંપરા પણ સામેલ છે, જેમાં ઓઝાપ્રથા અથવા ભુવાપ્રથાના કેટલાક તત્ત્વો હોય છે.

મેઈતેઈ લોકો પોતાના સામાન્ય વહેવારમાં મણિપુરી ભાષા બોલે છે, જે 'તિબેટિયન-બર્મા ભાષા પરિવાર' પૈકીની એક છે^[૨].
