SHRI NRUSINHACHARYAJI

THE GREAT AWAKENING LIGHT

(Swami Shri Shivanandji)

(Founder-President of Divine Life Society, Rishikesh)

The whole of Western India, especially Gujarat and Kathiawad owes a deep debt of gratitude to the Mahapurush known to us as Shri Nrusinhacharya. Known to his intimate and close disciples and followers as Bapji Shri, this great soul was saintly personality that came upon this earth to work out a lofty mission of awakening, inspiring and enlightening. His sublime personality and life-work forms a great landmark in the social and cultural history of Gujarat. Single handed he has brought about a great reformation amongst the people and restored to them their ancient heritage of Sanatan Dharma. His services in this field are indeed phenomenal.

Bapji Shri was not an ordinary man. He was A Yogi. He was a Swayam Siddha.

In consonance with the divine dispensation, Bapji Shri's birth is in the line of Sundareshwar, a great Tapasvi Purusha. The marks of his extraordinary genius were clearly visible in him even during his boyhood. He amazed Gangadhara Shastri, his vedic teacher with his precocity and extraordinary knowledge even as the boy Jesus battled the priests and the elder sin the Synagogue. His Veda Guru therefore called him a Vidhya Siddha Purusha.

Such great souls come with a stamp of Divinity upon them even from their birth. They never get entangled in the meshes of worldliness. Bapji Shri exhibited a love for the saints, scriptures, Sat-Sang og holy men, devotion and worship right from his earliest boyhood and youth, He easily grasped the very heart of and essence of the Upanishadic wisdom even right at the start of his life. The true mark and the distinguishing quality of saints of his eminence is that they are ever intent upon the welfare of their fellow beings. They are according to the Gita : Sarva Bhut Hite Rata. They do not live for themselves but truly live for the good of others. The noble basis of the sublime life structure of this ideal spiritual personality was compassion, devotion, worshipful and dedication. In Bapji Shri we have a true Sant-Mahan. His life was one unceasing stream of inward meditation and outward Loksangraha and seva in the form of Dharmic and Adhyatmic prachar, inspiring all men and women including students toward higher ethical and spiritual idealism. Timely and much needed was his reformation in the domestic and social sphere and revival of the vedic religion in all its aspects. He has left for posterity a sublime monument of his life work in the form of a number of outstanding books covering all aspects of man's life written with forceful Bhav and spirituality. His 'Shri Siddhanta Sindhu' is an outstanding work of high merit serves as a most lucid commentary on Yoga and Vedanta.
