The state of Orissa is in eastern India.

This is a list of Chief Ministers of Orissa state in India. The province of Orissa was formed on 1 April 1936 by merging parts of Ganjam and Viskhapatnam districts of Madras Presidency with the Oriya speaking districts of the province of Bihar and Orissa. The princely states attached to Bihar and Orissa were brought under the direct rule of the Viceroy of India.

Note 1 : The Coalition Government of Chief Minister Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo collapsed on 9th January, 1971. An anomalous situation of constitutional interest arose with the resignation of the Chief Minister. The Governor accepted the resignation of the Chief Minister with effect from 8-30 p.m. on 9th January, 1971. But the President’s Rule was imposed on 11th January, 1971. For a little more than one day the State was under the direct rule of the Governor.
