મોવેમ્બર

મોવેમ્બર (મૂછો માટેના અંગ્રેજી શબ્દ મુસ્ટૅચ અને નવેમ્બરના સંકરણથી બનાવેલો શબ્દ) એક વાર્ષિક કાર્યક્રમ છે જે એક મહિના સુધી ચાલે છે. આ કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત તેમાં ભાગ લેનારી વ્યક્તિઓ નવેમ્બર મહિના દરમ્યાન મૂછો ઉગાડે છે અને વધારે છે. આમ કરવા પાછળનો ઉદ્દેશ પુરુષોમાં થતા પ્રોસ્ટેટ કેન્સર અને અન્ય રોગો પ્રત્યે જાગૃતિ કેળવવાનો છે. ધ મોવેમ્બર ફાઉન્ડેશન નામની સંસ્થા આ કાર્યક્રમ ચલાવે છે જેનું સંચાલન Movember.com વેબસાઇટ પરથી થાય છે.[૧] મોવેમ્બરનું ધ્યેય છે "પુરુષોના સ્વાસ્થ્યની શકલ બદલવી" ("change the face of men's health.")[૨]
પુરુષો (મો બ્રો)ને આ કાર્યક્રમમાં જોડાવવા માટે ઉત્સાહિત કરીને મોવેમ્બર એવો હેતુ સેવે છે કે આના દ્વારા કેન્સરનું વહેલું નિદાન, પરિક્ષણ અને અસરકારક સારવાર થઈ શકે જેના પગલે શક્ય તેટલા મૃત્યુ ટાળી શકાય.. ફક્ત વર્ષમાં એક વખત સ્વાસ્થ્ય પરિક્ષણ કરવા માટે જ પ્રેરીને આ સંસ્થા અટકતી નથી. તે, લોકોને પોતાના કુટુંબમાં કોઈને પહેલા આવું કોઈ કેન્સર થયું હતું કે નહિ તેની જાણકારી મેળવવા અને સ્વાસ્થ્યપ્રદ જીવનશૈલિ અપનાવવા માટે પણ આહ્વાન કરે છે.[૩]
ઇ.સ. ૨૦૦૪થી મોવેમ્બર ફાઇન્ડેશન નામની સખાવતી સંસ્થા ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયા અને નૂઝીલેન્ડમાં મોવેમ્બર કાર્યક્રમનું આયોજન કરતી આવી છે જેના દ્વારા પુરુષોના સ્વાસ્થ્ય સંબંધી સમસ્યાઓ (જેવી કે પ્રોસ્ટેટ કેન્સર અને હતાશા)ના ઇલાજ માટે ફાળો ઉઘરાવી રહી છે અને લોક જાગૃતિ જગાવી રહી છે. ૨૦૦૭માં આયર્લેન્ડ, કેનેડા, ચેક રિપબ્લિક, ડેન્માર્ક, સ્પેન, યુનાઇટેડ કિંગડમ, ઈઝરાયલ, દક્ષિણ આફ્રિકા, તાઇવાન અને યુ.એસ.એ.માં પણ મોવેમ્બરની શરૂઆત કરવામાં આવી.[૪][૫]
આજે તેનો વ્યાપ ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયાથી લઈને દક્ષિણ આફ્રિકા, યુરોપ અને ઉત્તર અમેરિક સુધી વિસ્તર્યો છે.[૬][૭] ૨૦૧૧ સુધીમાં કેનેડા બધા દેશો પૈકી સૌથી વધુ દાન નોંધાવનારો દેશ હતો.[૮][૯] ૨૦૧૦માં વૃષણના કેન્સર માટે ચાલતા કાર્યક્રમ ટૅચબેક સાથે મોવેમ્બર ભળી ગઈ.[૧૦]
૨૦૧૨માં ધ ગ્લોબલ જર્નલે મોવેમ્બરને વિશ્વની ૧૦૦ ટોચની બિન નફાકારક સંસ્થાઓ (NGO)માં સ્થાન આપ્યું.[૧૧]
ઇતિહાસ

[ફેરફાર કરો]૧૯૯૯માં ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયન ટીવી ચેનલ સેવન નેટવર્કના સમાચારમાં એડિલેઇડના પુરુષોના એક નાના જૂથના સમાચાર પ્રસારિત થયા હતા જેમણે "મોવેમ્બર" શબ્દ બનાવ્યો અને નવેમ્બર મહિના દરમ્યાન મૂછો વધારીને સખાવત કરવાના વિચારને જન્મ આપ્યો હતો.[૧૨] આ ન્યૂઝ રિપોર્ટમાં એડિલેઇડ સ્થિત આ "મોવેમ્બર સમિતિ"ના સભ્યોએ કેવી રીતે એક રાતે પબમાં બેઠાબેઠા તેમને મોવેમ્બરનો વિચાર આવ્યો હતો તે જણાવ્યું હતું. આ લોકોએ ૮૦ જણથી શરૂઆત કરી હતી અને ધ્યેય રાખ્યું હતું પશુઓ માટે જીવદયાનું કામ કરતી સંસ્થા આર.એસ.પી.સી.એ. (RSPCA) માટે ટીશર્ટ્સ વેચીને પૈસા ભેગા કરવાનું. આ કામ માટે તેમણે સૂત્ર ઘડી કાઢ્યું હતું "(કૂતરા-બિલાડાની) મૂછો માટે મૂછો ઉગાડો" ("Growing whiskers for whiskers").[૧૨] આ સમિતિ આજે પ્રચલિત મોવેમ્બર કાર્યક્રમથી અલિપ્ત રહે છે અને દાવો કરે છે કે ૧૯૯૯માં "મોવેમ્બર" શબ્દને જન્મ આપનાર તે છે.[૧૩]
૨૦૦૪માં, આ લોકોથી તદ્દન જુદાં એવા મેલબોર્ન સ્થિત એક જૂથના ૩૦ પુરુષોએ પ્રોસ્ટેટ કેન્સર અને પુરુષોમાં હતાશા (ડિપ્રેશન) અંગે જાગૃતિ કેળવવાના ઉદ્દેશ સાથે નવેમ્બરના ૩૦ દિવસ સુધી મૂછો વધારી હતી. [૧૪][૧૫] આ જૂથ આગળ જતા મોવેમ્બર ફાઉન્ડેશન નામની સખાવતી સંસ્થા બન્યું.
ત્યારથી આજ સુધીમાં મોવેમ્બર ફાઉન્ડેશને આશરે ૧૭.૫ કરોડ અમેરિકન ડોલર જેટલી માતબર રકમનો ફાળો એકત્ર કર્યો છે,[૧૬] જેમાં મોટો હિસ્સો ૨૦૦૬માં આ કાર્યક્રમના યુરોપ, દક્ષિણ આફ્રિકા અને અમેરિકામાં ફેલાવા પછીનો છે.[૬][૭] ૨૦૧૦માં એકલા યુ.એસ.એ.માંથી ભાગ લેનારા લોકોએ જ ૭૫ લાખ અમેરિકન ડોલર ભેગા કર્યા હતા.[૧૭]
ચર્ચામાં
[ફેરફાર કરો]૨૦૦૭માં ન્યૂઝીલેન્ડના વેલિંગ્ટનની સ્કોટ્સ કોલેજે કેટલાક સ્નાતક વિદ્યાર્થીઓને મૂછો વધારવાને કારણે સત્રાંત પારિતોષિક સમારોહમાં પ્રવેશવા પર પ્રતિબંધ મુક્યો હતો અને ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમિક શાળાના એક વિદ્યાર્થીને આ જ કારણથી તેની વાર્ષિક પરિક્ષામાં નહિ બેસવા દેવાની ધમકી પણ આપી હતી.[૧૮]
૨૦૦૭માં મોવેમ્બર ફાઉન્ડેશનના કાર્યક્રમો ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયાના ટેબ્લોઇડ સાંપ્રત સમસ્યાઓના કાર્યક્રમ ટૂડે ટૂનાઇટમાં ચમક્યા હતા જેમાં તેના પર આરોપ લગાવવામાં આવ્યો હતો કે આ સંસ્થા તેને મળેલા નાણાંમાંથી ઘણો મોટો હિસ્સો વહિવટી ખર્ચમાં અને તેના ડાયરેક્ટરોના પગાર પાછળ ખર્ચે છે.[૧૯] ૨૦૦૮ના મોવેમ્બર કાર્યક્રમના આર્થિક સરવૈયામાં કેમ્પેઇન કોસ્ટ (વહોવટી ખર્ચ અને ફાળો એકત્રીકરણના કામો) પેટે કુલ મળેલી રકમના ફક્ત ૮% હિસ્સાનો જ ખર્ચ થયાનું દર્શાવવામાં આવ્યું હતું.[૨૦][૨૧] ૨૦૦૭માં આ જ ખર્ચ કૂલ દાનના ૯% દર્શાવવામાં આવ્યો હતો.[૨૨]
નિયમો
[ફેરફાર કરો]મોવેમ્બર વેબસાઇટ પર કાર્યક્રમમાં ભાગલેનારાઓ માટેના નિયમો નીચે મુજબ જણાવવામાં આવ્યા છે:[૨૩]
- એક વખત movember.com પર નોંધણી કરાવ્યા બાદ મો બ્રોએ ૧લી નવેમ્બરે સફાચટ ચહેરે જ શરૂઆત કરવી.
- આખા નવેમ્બર મહિના દરમ્યાન દરેક મો બ્રોએ મૂછો વધારવી અને તેની માવજત કરવી આવશ્યક છે.
- મૂછો કલમ સાથે જોડાવી ના જોઈએ (જો તેમ થાય તો તેની ગણતરી દાઢીમાં થઈ જશે).
- મૂછો નીચેની તરફ લંબાઈને હડપચી સુધી ના પહોંચવી જોઈએ (જો તેમ થાય તો તેની ગણતરી બકરા દાઢીમાં થાય).
- દરેક મો બ્રો પોતે એક મોભાદાર સજ્જન હોય તેવું વર્તન રાખવું.

[ફેરફાર કરો]૨૦૧૧માં ગુગલ ક્રોમ બ્રાઉઝરે મોવેમ્બર સાથે વિડિયો બનાવવા માટે ભાગીદારી કરી. વિડિયોમાં એવા લોકોનો સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો જેમણે મોવેમ્બર કાર્યક્રમમાં ભાગ લીધો હોય અને તેમણે વેબ અને Movember.comનો ઉપયોગ કેવી રીતે લોકોમાં જાગૃતિ કેળવવા માટે અને આ ઉમદા કાર્યમાં ફાળો એકત્ર કરવા માટે કર્યો હતો તેની વાત વણી લેવામાં આવી હતી. આ વિડિયો ૧૧ લાખ કરતા પણ વધુ લોકોએ જોયો હતો. તેમાં હેન્ડ્સમફર્સનું ગાયન "રીપેટ્રિએટેડ" લેવામાં આવ્યું હતું [૨૪][૨૫]
૨૦૧૦ અને ૨૦૧૧માં મોવેમ્બરે TOMS સાથે લિમિટેડ એડિશન બુટ બનાવવા માટે ભાગીદારી કરી હતી, જે બુટ કાર્યક્રમમાં ભાગલેનારાઓ માટે હતા.[૨૬]
૨૦૧૧માં ક્વોન્ટાસ એરલાઇન્સે મોવેમ્બરને સહાયરૂપ થવાના આશયથી તેના એક વિમાન પર મૂછો ચીતરી હતી.[૨૭]

In 2010, some of the Montreal Canadiens were seen sporting moustaches during the month of November, with a video appearing on the Canadiens homepage, thus confirming the worldwide spread of Movember.[૪૪]
2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button started support for Movember by showing off his blond moustache at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, returning the presence of the moustache on the F1 podium by finishing 3rd, the first since the 1994 Australian Grand Prix won by Nigel Mansell.
In 2009, many of the Australian rugby union team players were seen sporting moustaches during the Autumn Test Series.
Many high-profile Australian sports people, celebrities, and dignitaries have supported the Movember Foundation, including World Champion surfer Mick Fanning;[૪૫] author, columnist, and presenter Samantha Brett;[૪૬] Today sports presenter Cameron Williams; ex-Big Brother housemate Ryan Fitzgerald; Queensland cricket all-rounder Andrew Symonds; and several AFL players.[૪૭] NHL "tough guy" George Parros, alongside Bill McCreary, shaved his mustache to participate in the 2010 Movember event. Brad Pozzi an Australian rules lineback.[૪૮]
Movember is regularly supported by sporting organisations and celebrities in New Zealand, with names such as national rugby captain Richie McCaw[૪૯] actively involved in supporting the charity.

[ફેરફાર કરો]Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has used Movember to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues in Australia and New Zealand. Monetary proceeds go toward the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the Cancer Society and Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, and Beyond Blue.[૫૦]
In 2007, the Foundation launched campaigns in Canada (funds raised go to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada), Spain (FEFOC), the United Kingdom (The Prostate Cancer Charity સંગ્રહિત ૨૦૦૮-૦૬-૦૪ ના રોજ વેબેક મશિન), and the United States (Prostate Cancer Foundation LIVESTRONG).[૫૦] In the US, Movember's men's health partners are The Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.[૫૧][૫૨]

[ફેરફાર કરો]The popularity of Movember as a charity has inspired other annual facial hair growing contests across the world, such as No Shave November and Mustache March.[૫૫][૫૬] Such events are not affiliated with Movember, and are not registered charitable foundations,[૫૭] although some smaller events have been held to raise money or awareness for different charities.[૫૮][૫૯]
Some college students have confused the facial hair contest, No Shave November, with the charity event, Movember.[૬૦] No Shave November is not affiliated with any philanthropic organizations.[૬૧] The facial hair growing contest No Shave November has participants not shaving at all for the month.[૬૨] Unlike Movember, No Shave November does not raise funds for testicular and prostate cancer research and allows participants to grow facial hair other than moustaches.[૫૫] Both men and women participate in the month-long event, with men abstaining from shaving their beards, and women their armpits or legs.[૬૩] In 2010, a website was mounted explaining the rules of the event, including #1 "No shaving in November and #2 "No shaving in November.[૬૪]
