A very Happy New Year 2021. As you know this year we are going to celebrate Wikipedia's 20th birthday on 15th January 2021, to start the celebration, I like to invite you to participate in the event titled "Wikipedia 20th celebration the way I & my family feels"

The event will be conducted from 1st January 2021 till 15th January and another one from 15th January to 14th February 2021 in two segments, details on the event page.

Hope this message finds you well. Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2021 will take place from 19 to 21 February 2021 (Friday to Sunday). Here is some quick important information:

• A tentative schedule of the program is published and you may see it here. There are sessions on different topics such as Wikimedia Strategy, Growth, Technical, etc. You might be interested to have a look at the schedule.
• The program will take place on Zoom and the sessions will be recorded.
• If you have not registered as a participant yet, please register yourself to get an invitation, The last date to register is 16 February 2021.

WMF Board Governance meeting Gujarati community on March 7 (Sunday) from 12 pm to 1 pm

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is organizing a call for feedback about community selection processes between February 1 and March 14. While the Wikimedia Foundation and the movement have grown about five times in the past ten years, the Board’s structure and processes have remained basically the same. As the Board is designed today, we have a problem of capacity, performance, and lack of representation of the movement’s diversity. Our current processes to select individual volunteer and affiliate seats have some limitations. Direct elections tend to favor candidates from the leading language communities, regardless of how relevant their skills and experience might be in serving as a Board member, or contributing to the ability of the Board to perform its specific responsibilities. It is also a fact that the current processes have favored volunteers from North America and Western Europe. As a matter of fact, there had only been one member who served on the Board, from South Asia, in more than fifteen years of history.

In the upcoming months, we need to renew three community seats and appoint three more community members in the new seats. This call for feedback is to see what processes can we all collaboratively design to promote and choose candidates that represent our movement and are prepared with the experience, skills, and insight to perform as trustees? In this regard, a meeting with the Gujarati community has been scheduled to discuss the proposed ideas and collect your thoughts and feedback. The meeting is on March 7 (Sunday) from 12 pm to 1 pm. It is the second iteration of Mahatma Gandhi mini edit-a-thon. The edit-a-thon will be on the same dates 2nd and 3rd October (Weekend). During the last iteration, we had created or developed or uploaded content related to Mahatma Gandhi. This time, we will create or develop content about Mahatma Gandhi and any article directly related to the Indian Independence movement. The list of articles is given on the event page.
