મા. જે. પુસ્તકાલય, એમ.જે. લાઇબ્રેરી અથવા શેઠ માણેકલાલ જેઠાભાઇ પુસ્તકાલય એલિસ બ્રિજ, અમદાવાદ, ભારત ખાતે સ્થિત એક જાહેર પુસ્તકાલય છે.

ઇતિહાસ

મહાત્મા ગાંધીએ સાબરમતી આશ્રમમાં તેમની પાસેનાં પુસ્તકોના સંગ્રહ દ્વારા જાહેર પુસ્તકાલય બનાવવાની દરખાસ્ત કરી. આ પુસ્તકાલય શરૂ કરવા માટે બાપુએ આશરે ૭,૦૦૦ ^[૧] -૧૫,૦૦૦ ^[૨] પુસ્તકો દાન કર્યાં.^[૩]^[૪]

પુસ્તકાલયનું નામ માણેકલાલ જેઠાભાઇના નામ પર રાખવામાં આવ્યું; તેઓ રસિકલાલ માણેકલાલ (જેમણે આ પુસ્તકાલય બનાવવા માટે દાન આપ્યું હતું) ના પિતા હતા.^[૪] તેનું ઉદ્ઘાટન સરદાર વલ્લભભાઇ પટેલે ૧૫ એપ્રિલ ૧૯૩૮ના રોજ કર્યું હતું.

સ્થાપત્ય

પુસ્તકાલયની સ્થાપત્ય સંરચના (આર્કિટેક્ચરલ ડિઝાઇન) ક્લાઉડ બૅટલીએ કરી હતી.^[૫]
